Simultaneous interpreting is the most efficient and effective method of offering translation services during an international conference. Simultaneous interpreting involves speaking, listening and translating all at the same time, while the audience can listen in via headset. In a whispered interpreting solution, the simultaneous interpreter is present in the hall, and translates simultaneously with the speaker, directly into the ear of not more than two listeners. For more than two listeners, a tour guide set (whisper headset) is used. The interpreter speaks into a microphone and the listener receives the sound via their headset. This method is ideally suited for:
- Small groups of listeners
- Situations where a booth is impractical
- Regular location switches (for example workshops in different locations)

The consecutive interpreter is present in the hall, listens to the speaker and takes notes. The interpreter then translates what has been said into the target language. For the optimum translation, the speaker takes regular breaks, allowing the interpreter to deliver the message. In this situation, no equipment is needed for a small group of listeners. For larger groups, a sound system can be used to communicate the translation.
